Default question on painting front bowtie

for those of you that have painted it, what did yall use? i painted mine but after about 3 months i started to have bad rock chips. is there anything i could use to protect it from doing this? do i have to buy some special paint? thanks for the help............

I painted the bowtie on my 2000 silverado with regular spray paint... I just sanded down the plastic surface with a really fine sandpaper and wiped it afterward with laquer thinner to clean it off. Then put newspaper around everything around it to save from overspray and it stuck good... didnt peel or chip on me at all...
