a pillar mounted tach
#1
after putting in my cam and realizing that my truck can take more than 6000rpms i wanted to put an aftermarket tach in but really couldnt decide where to mount it...after looking for a while i found this thread BlackGMC made a while back...
https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...highlight=tach
after getting some tips from him i decided to go ahead and try it...i asked my friend (SBChvy) if he would give me a hand seeing i never had played with fiberglass before so we went to work and this is what i came up with...

im very pleased with the way it came out seeing i never done anything like that before...i didnt turn out lucky like BlackGMC made out with the bottom clearance...it just rests on the bezel but not enough to damage it or bother me...this could have been easily fixed if i wasnt so dumb and take off the bezel if you will that the tach comes in
...the OD is a little smaller and much shallower but oh well...
i also picked up some interceptors to see whats goin on...very please with them and the tach...kinda gets hard to realize that i can just glance to the left rather than try and peer through the steering wheel...
i put a blue 194 bulb in the tach but it still sucks...so i should be getting my LED to replace it to match the gauges and interceptors...i will post more pics when i get my camera back from my g/f...thanks again to SBChvy for the help!

thanks man...it really is fun...once you get your first mold set then let the shaping begin!...we started out grinding the excess with an angle grinder, then i started with 60 grit, then did another coat, sanded again, another coat, and then used 150 and got all the way down to 320 grit...when i thought i was finished i found a couple of more dips that needed to be filled...certainly is cool to say that i made that piece!

heres the pic with the new LED in the tach...def like it alot better...makes the needle almost look florescent at night...

heres a pic of all three gauges...BTW i do know that im reading IATs in both gauges...lol gonna take me like 2 months to get em the way i want them...

oh BTW...when i went to install the tach i went and tapped A4 in the back of the cluster and that didnt work...after searching for about a half hour and trying injector wires and coil wires, just started poking around in the cluster harness and found A2 is the one for the 99-02...so anyone doing this in these year trucks u dont have to guess and mess with ur harness's
