Pic Request: Lowered W/ Bumper
#21
1993 S10 Extended cab, LT1/4L60 (yes, non-computer, had a 93 throttle body) I had a few years ago had a roll pan along with a shaved body and a badass black paint job. I got rearended in Atlanta traffic. Wasn't a hard hit, but the bed crumpled and nicked the cab. Insurance totalled it out and cut me a check for $2200, to get the interior, drivetrain and wheels back I had to buy it back for $900. So I ended up with $1300 and a destroyed truck with a salvage title that had 2-3 years of time and paychecks in it.
Like I said, I love the look, just not on my vehicles....

um..... if the cost is 75% or more of the vehicle value, its totaled no matter what...and the blue book his his truck doesnt include his mods.... so the value wouldnt be very high... therefor the cost of bed, slight back damage would total it..

Exactly, you could have 50k in paint, wheels, mods etc... and unless you add additional coverage to cover it your getting average book value from your Ins company. I did this on a Tahoe i used to have, I was selling it to my brother and he put it on his Ins then totaled it, it was still in my name at the time. Long story short they tryed to give me 7500 for it b/c they said there was one for sale in my area for that price. I knew the vehicle and had worked on it and fought them. Mine was low mileage v. 170,000 and perfect in every way until wrecked, not even a chip in the paint or spot in the carpet. Wound up settling for 13,xxx but if It had still been on my insurance it was insured for 25k!! I have State Farm.

Thanks for the info..i had my paint guy quote me $300 to prep and paint my chrome bumper..whaddya guys think, should i do that or could i get a work truck bumper cheaper? He also said for $300 more he'd prep and paint the front chrome bumper and the lower valence.

Really? I'm actually searching junk yards for a w/t bumper right now but what would the difference be in quality of paint if all the prep work was done to the chrome? I'm not talking scuff sand and paint over chrome..he's talking bout strip to bare metal and using acid etched primer and all that good stuff.
