Default Painting my stock bumper, or bumper cover?

Hey, I just want to say again awesome forum, I've already met some really cool people here!

So I want to paint my front end (bumper & grille) on my 99 Silverado to match the rest of my vehicle. I got some opinions from some auto painters here in Phoenix, and basically have been sort of steered clear of painting the stock bumper, and grille. They say as soon as I take it for a drive down the road it's going to chip like crazy, and suggested getting paintable parts instead. I guess the stock OEM plastic isn't the type that takes good to painting because it releases grease continuously through out it's lifetime. I am aware of the steps that should be taken when painting over plastic, and chrome, and I have read a lot people here that have painted there stock front bumper, and grille have had really nice results though.

So, I ended up buying a paintable grille to be on the safe side. Next I decided I was going to get a Polyurethane Street Scene SS Bumper and, holy cats! I didn't know they were so much dough. So now I can't decide if I should just take a chance on getting the stock bumper painted anyway, or just bite the bullet on the cost of a bumper cover.

Thanks for any advice!

I guess it doesn't matter now, I just went ahead and said screw it, and ordered a Street Scene Bumper Cover already. I love the looks of those better with the air vents and all. Who am I kidding.

Lol congrats on the purchase, a member in here had his front bumper of a 2013 sierra vinyl wrapped. Looks amazing and I'll be doing mine soon as well

Nice.

I know that is going to look real good. I have used some of 3m's di-noc, as well as their scotch print carbon fiber. I love that stuff. The look and feel is awesome. I haven't got around to it yet but that stuff is definitely going to be finding it's way on to my truck!
