Default Painted to Polished

Alright suckas I am going to be finally taking my painted declads and polishing them tonight and this weekend. I actually finally had the gunmetal look grow on me but I still think it just looks out of place on the truck. I don't have any up close pictures of the wheels but those are them.

My plan is to sand with 800 grit on all four wheels to get the paint off, if someone has a different grit idea let me know but I don't really want to scratch the aluminum up too much if I can avoid.
Next is hit it with 1200 grit, then again with 2000 grit. From what I have been reading and watching this will actually give a decent finish before polish.
Lastly I will use my buffing wheel to run a white rouge over it and polish everything out. This should work and I hope I am not gonna look retarded afterwards. Worst that can happen is I have to sell the wheels for what I paid for or maybe $100 more
I do not have a sealant which is kinda in the back of my mind but I may just run a paint wax as a temporary solution until I can get something else. I really just need to sand once thank god, polishing is not so bad it is just the sanding 3 or 4 times that is AIDs.

Anyways if you have any thoughts or tips etc let me know. Ready to get off of work already so I can get to it!

If it is paint, not powercoat, use aircraft stripper to remove the coating. That will save a bunch of elbow grease trying to get to a polished finish.

It is paint, the guy used uno cards to protect his tire from his spray can and posted a pic of it when selling.

I was thinking about doing aircraft stripper but I'm worried about my rubber

Also I can peel some of the paint off with my fingernail so that is another reason why I know that it is paint and not powder coat lol

Do a test of the stripper on some old POS tire on the side of the road, if it bubbles or burns through the rubber don't use it on yours lol.

Aren’t you supposed to leave it on for 30 minutes?

I do have my 22 year old spare tire I could try it on…

One time I got Chassis saver all over my hands and arms and could not get it off, went to work and got in trouble for looking dirty. Went home with a bottle of that aircraft stripper and jumped in the shower to get to work. lathered my hands and arms all up with that nasty **** and it was getting the paint off real well. Until it started dripping down to my man bits and getting uncomfortable. Damn stuff nearly pealed layer of the old trouser snake and I ain't got much I can afford to lose. Lesson learned do not get that stuff anywhere sensitive.

Lmfao you didn't think about maybe wearing some boxers or shorts in there with you?

I'll pick some up on my way home then. It will give me enough time to swap all the wheels off while testing it on some old rubber. I think if I masked off the tires I will be okay, probably going to be the best thing to do.

Wait a minute, I think I just realized these wheels are plasti dipped. I was reading something that says if it flakes with a finger nail it is dipped. That is exactly what mine does. This might be easier than I thought

Edit: Now I'm getting mixed reviews online about that lol I wish that guy sent me the can of whatever he used so I would know what it was. I only asked him about 5 times.
