Its probably 40 bucks worth of paint. Sucks, but I am still painting some other pieces with the leftover.

do you think the finish would come out any different with a rattle can vs a detail gun?

Im not really sure what a detail gun is, but if you are talking about a air compressor fed paint gun I think you could make that finish look like pure sex! I have one, just didn't buy paint for it.
