Ditto x2 LOL. I agree.

Ive seen this combo before, just doesnt look right.

I had a goodmark cowl on my old 04, loved it but hated the grille, would like to have a "real" cowl hood for my 07. This is one reason i love the 99-02 so much and the 99-07 GMC's because they have a great looking cowl hood for them.

Sorry off topic OP, I applaud your out the box thinking, but it would def look better molded in IMO.

I agree, that would make it look better. Nice and clean looking.

I'd love to have one where it was one-piece and molded like this, I'm just debating if molding it is worth the effort just to have to redo it later. With the heat here in Florida and from the engine bay, it WILL eventually develop cracks. I agree it would look better one piece, just debating if I want to do that or not

There are SOO many people with ghetto rides around here running stick-on AutoZone fake hood scoops, so I would never even consider this setup unless it was molded in.

Maybe it's not a big problem where you guys live, but I think every green ricer and '88 chrome stick-on happy OBS with 26" wheels around here has a 'hood scoop'.

Functional or nothing is best, IMO. Props for attempting something unique, though!

I don't think it looks anything like the stick on scoops you see everywhere but that's just me. Also the time/effort/money I'd put out to make it functional would be a waste just to be able to say it's functional, I have better things to spend my money on. I guess we need to tell all the guys on here with cowls they should remove them since they aren't functional lol. Thanks though, was wanting something different. Again on the molding, it's gonna crack lol. I'd rather have it not molded than drive around with cracks or have to fix it every time it cracks lol. BTW love the wheels on your truck

Cowl hoods are functional. They draw in the cool air that tends to condense around the 'pocket' by the bottom of the windshield at speed.

Thanks on the wheels! I LOVE them, and get compliments all the time.

I know how a cowl hood works, but you see any of the guys on here running an airbox up there? It draws in air but it's just going nowhere, if it does anything it might drop the temp under the hood slightly but I'd say it's marginal at best, a sealed box up there would take advantage of it but no one does it. Cowl hoods on most EFI cars/trucks is aesthetics only or weight savings if fiberglass, that or needed to clear an intake. I'm debating cutting mine out just vor venting purposes but not going to bother with an airbox, not worth it

And no problem, always liked those wheels when done like that

** Just had an idea, maybe take a mold of the whole hood and make one completely out of fiberglass? As for the HD hoods, I've thought about getting some spares and cutting one up and making a cowl, slice the hood in the area for the cowl and raise metal up in the shape for the cowl, then build sides coming down and weld it up and smooth it out

I'm not digging the stick-on but a full glass hood in that style could look good. I have always wondered how a bubble hood would look on a NBS.

What is this grille on the cowl hoods u 2 guys are mentioning? Why does it look so bad? Is it the design or the material it's made out of?

Agreed. Most do cowls for aesthetic reason.

As I read this, it causes me to ponder my own situation. I've thought how much I'd love a cowl. For looks tho & my hood has rust around stock hood latch.

My issues are, Pro vs Con
For cowls
1) It looks cool
2) It may drop weight, may
3) It'll look better underneath by latch, as mine has rust near there (but this doesn't apply to everyone). it's nagged me for yrs. Is it climate only, or cheap steel used by GM?!?
4) I can be creative w/. some graphics

Against cowls
1) This one really irks me - no one makes em in the U.S., except some really pricey ones.
2) Most designs I don't like, & on the '03-4, they always push the W30 twin style hood, not the better lookin '99-02 GMC look, a far better look IMO
3) May be heavier than stock, esp. if it's a heavy fiberglass design, as they vary weightwise
4) Most are expensive. And prices just cont. to climb. Absurd how much they cost now.
5) People know u are not stock, cops & others, now I'm drawin attn.

If u have the capability, sounds as u do... a 1 pc. f/glass or steel as u mentioned, would solve your concerns.
It bugs me when guys cut up a factory cowl hood off a '69 Camaro or Chevelle, to attach to their rides, thereby minimizing how many original hoods are left of those, when if they have those metalworkin skillls, they could build their own outta metal or 'glass. There's a bajillion HD hoods, so u aren't really depletin a shrinkin resource due to the sheer numbers. Sorta. By that, guys are restoring more Camaros & Chevelles, trucks are utilitarian, not really thought of as restoration fodder.
