Default New Gauge Cluster

I installed my new SS gauge cluster yesterday and it looks great.

I kept this cluster because it looks cool.

I have the same swap done in my truck. It doesn't take long at all, maybe 20-30 minutes with basic hand tools. All you have to do is remove the dash bezel, pull the old gauge cluster out and plug the new one in!

It took about 20 minutes to change out.

I think that a couple of the led's are out so some spots are dark.

i didn't realize it was that easy to do. 99 - 07 all the same right? does the new odometer retain your true mileage?

no it doesnt, it keeps the mileage of the cluster.

No and No. Unfortunately for you, GM changed the clusters in '03 to accomodate the new DIC (Driver Information Center) under the speedometer and therefore the clusters for an '03+ aren't compatible with a '99-'02 truck. And as nightrunner said, the cluster has it's own onboard memory that stores mileage, engine operating hours and VIN from the vehicle it was originally installed in. In order to swap a cluster and have the information match yours you have to get it reprogrammed by a dealership or other business/person equipped with the right programming tool.

well i don't mind suddenly having less miles, but that sucks about the clusters not being compatible. can't win 'em all.
