I was thinking about getting a carbon fiber hood awhile back, and then painting everything but where the SS type stripes would be (like on a 70 Chevelle). That way it would be body colored and have carbon fiber stripes. I decided against it due to the rice factor, but I would like to have one totally painted body color so that it would look like a regular hood but be about 40lbs lighter I'd bet.

Oh, and as a side note, "The General" put a Carbon fiber hood on the '04 Z06's with the commemorative editions, and noone screamed "rice"

Most of the CF hoods I've seen are overlayed fiberglass hoods. So, you're adding weight to a fiberglass hood by laying the CF over it. I highly doubt that you could get a completely CF hood for the prices that APC are selling them for.
Why not just get a 'glass hood and save even more weight? Just because it's CF doesn't mean it's the lightest thing out there.
