Default How to remove scratchs in paint?

Just got a scratch across my hood last night...looks like a light key scratch about 12" long across front of the hood not to the metal just in the paint, but i can feel it with my finger nail. What do i need to do to fix it any tips, havent had a chance to use any rubbing compound at all or anything really just noticed it earlier today and just tried to rubbing it out with a towel.
Any tips?

Try something like Meguiars' Scratch-X, other than that I don't know. Wish you luck.

strategicaly place another scatch some place else on the car, this is know as an optical illusion, and it can trick the human eyes into not even noticing it!!!

try a good 3M compound and then polish.. if its not too deep that should take most of it out.

I almost went to jail over smeone running a shopping cart into my bed. (looked like it was on purpose) I know accidents do happen but when you are walking across a parking lot and you push the thing RIGHT towards my truck and then just stand still and watch it bang my bedside I would call that deliberate... he's lucky he was underage because I would have worked him over thoroughly... his folks werent there either so I ended up being SOL after he gave me a fake number... I still have the dent... what an *** hole...

don't even get me started, i hate college parking lots bec no one gives a $hit about anyone elses stuff, i have to park either in the back and then sometimes i'm not safe, i once a couple weeks ago found a huge scratch on the bottom of my passs side door when i parked on the end of a lot without the possiblity of enyone being able to park there. and when i go to my dorm and its 30 deg out side i can't park right in the front at a nice place bec my truck will get all scratched, i have to park way the crap in the back of another lot that isn't any where close to my dorm. i hate people!

its to the very back of every lot for me, keep away from other car and you should be fine, but at the apartment i was living at about a year ago a 5 year old girl with retarded-ness (honestly) rode her peddle bike right into my truck small dent was the result.

last summer i had the truck parked in the street while i mowed my dads yard. this kid about 4 feet tall was riding a mountan bike that he could barely reach the peddles on. you guessed it. rode past my truck and leaned right over into my drivers fender. i could see the 1 foot scratch from about 30 yds away. i lost it on the kid. i ran over and chunked his bike on as far as i could away from my truck and inspected the scratch. kid was crying blah blah but i got lucky! his brake lever didnt catch the paint and it was only a thick black rubber coat on top of my clear from his handlebar grips. i rubbed it off with my thumb in about 5 seconds and havent seen that kid on my side of the block since
