I'm looking into doing the same to my tailgate, I know the handle will cost around $50, and I was quoted about $150 for the welding, smoothing (dough) and paint.

I paid $500 total for mine and that included the cost and paint of the rollpan.
$300 should be doable for the gate itself.

i would think that at a good body shop where when it is done it don't look like the ocean atleast 400- 500 bucks. Don't forget the holes at the top of the gate also. Me and my dad did mine so i never went to get a price.

just remember one thing. you get what you pay for. i would prob think about 3-400 for a good quality job. just do some research before you commit to a shop. i did my own and a couple more and its not that bad to do yourself.
