I went after mine with a large screwdriver...it wasnt the easiest thing I've ever done......it made the edge really rough but you can't see it from outside the truck. I sealed it back up with clear silicone.
I followed these instructions - http://mywebpages.comcast.net/00gmc/free_clear.htm
It has been a while but I think I used a blow dryer to soften up the factory sealant when prying it apart

those instructions are a really vague description, but thats basically what i did....
What i used:
X-ACTO knife (have plenty of blades, they get dull)
3 Flat Head Screw Drivers (have regular size and longer one)
pliers
Muscle and paitence
*note* i suggest you have a friend around to help you hold the head lamp open while you get the reflector out. Also you may think your gonna crack or break them but they will hold up through some pretty good bending.
I first took the clips off and cut as much of the sealer as i could, then i used the screw drivers to pry the headlights open while i tried to cut more sealer. I finally had to break off part of the bottom lip to get to all the sealer so the head lamp would open enough to pull the reflector out. *This was the real hard part* I did this by myself and it was tough, but i had to pull the head lamp apart with my hands and then jam some object between the clear plastic and the gray backing plastic so that i could fish the reflector out with a screw driver. After i got them out i sealed them up with some clear silicone and put the clips back on and was done!

This pic shows the piece of the gray bottom lip that i broke off, and about how far i cut the sealer glue.... hope all this helps and makes sense!
This free mod really sucked to do and leaves you with sore fingers and hands and will probably take longer than 45 min to do.... but the look of clear headlights is well worth it.

For the Subaru Impreza, you can bake the lights for about 10-15 minutes @250 degrees. This softens the glue enough so that you can pull the light apart with a little leverage.
perhaps you can try this rather then using a blow dryer?
