hardwiring radar detector....how to get top console off
#1
Hello all,
I am trying to hardwire my radar detector to my 2001 Suburban so that it powers up with the car. I was thinking the best place to hook it up to for ignition switched power would probabaly be the sunroof switch, but I have no idea how to get that little plastic console off. There's one screw in the front towards the windshield, but taking that out didn't seem to help at all. What do I have to do?
Thanks,
Dan

If this is the same little console as my 20002 sc Z71, you will need the screw out like you did and pull the console down straight with a firm pull. There are spring loaded clips holding the thing in, and the came loose real easy on mine and went back in with no problem.

Ahh, that did it! BUT...now I have no idea which of the 5 colored wires going into the sunroof switch I should be tapping off of. Any idea? I would probably be able to figure it out with my multimeter if I knew how to get that damn plug out of the socket for the sunroof switch. Thanks for the help so far.

Not sure which wire to splice into. When you find out let me know, I want to hard wire and electronic compass.
The multimeter sounds like your best bet.
