Default GM undercoating on new trucks??

I have seen the GM offers an undercoating procedure on new and used vehicles now. They also offer some type of rust protection for the inner door panels, jambs, etc. Do you guys have an opinion either way on this? Was wondering if it would be beneficial for those of us in the rust belt. Thanks.

Don't take my word on it, but I do have some sort of undercoating on my 01, nothing like powdercoat, but there is some sort of protectant on my underside. wonder if that is the same thing ur talking about.

Did some more research. Basically on the newer trucks they don't have any undercoat (a tar compound). They have a wax dipped frame, but that's it. GM offers to spray the tar undercoat on; they get the underside of the cab, bed, fenderwells, etc. These areas just have regular paint on them. However, they are supposed to galvanized steel. Now I also heard that the undercoat was not good because it absorbed moisture. Anybody else heard this theory?

yeah, the wax compound you are talking about is probably what I have (refering to my earlier post), it seems to be some sort of wax of some type.

Yeah when you use a jack on the frame the next day there may be a little rust from where the tar crap came off.
The galvanized steel is in the body panels. When I had the accident in my truck, and caved in the whole side of the bed. A month went by and the bare metal never rusted, even where the deep gouges were.

yeah i know what ur talking about with the tar crap comin off. Some day i'd like to look into some type of coating to keep the underside looking good. Wonder how much powder coating would run for the chassis?
