Default Front Suspension Questions

Okay, I'm a car guy. This is my first truck to modify. So be nice ;-)

It's an 04 5.3 Silverado EC with "Independant Front Suspension" (listed under the standard equipment) then listed under Manufactured installed options it says ... "High Performance Suspension".

I ordered a DJM 2/4 drop kit through StylinConcepts and it arrived today. There's no way those front lower control arms work on my truck! The box says they are for 1999 to 2004 Silverado C1500 but my truck suspension has bars that run from the LCA's back to the bed. I'm guessing they are some kind of torsion bars or something. There is a octagonal hole in the OEM arms for this bar but they are not present in the DJM ones. Oddly, it appears they are in the picture in the rediculous instructions.

What am I missing? Did they send me the wrong arms?

sounds like it is the wrong controll arm. is your truck 2wd? if it is i have never seen a 2wd with torsion bars and it makes me wonder why they did it.

Is your truck a 4x4? I didn't see shafts running to the wheels. Maybe the EC trucks run torsion bars?

No, but it certainly looks like one! That's why I want to drop it a couple inches. I'm just lucky to have bought one with a Performance Suspension Package (according to the window sticker) which I didn't know would be a problem at the time.

I'm hearing that I should forget changing the LCA's and try using a drop spindle instead. Argh! I already have everything and now I need to start over

I have a 2002 1500HD 2wd crew cab 6.0L, it has a torsion bar front end. I ordered a 2/4 drop kit and it came with reconfigured front torsion bar retainers. This drops the front end up to 3 inches and doesn't effect ride or suspension travel. I have 18x8 Boyds (8 lug).

I thought I had heard that the HD 2wd models had torsion bars.

BTW, welcome to LS1tech.

Tim, how long have you had that system installed? Any issues with extrodinary wear on other front suspension parts? I thought I had read concerns about front ball joint wear or something like that.

How difficult were they to install?

I spoke with StylinConcepts this morning, great customer service BTW, and they are checking out my options and will get back to me. If they can't come up with an acceptable plan, they will take everything back. If I can't or don't want to drop via the torsion bars, I think I will go with a system from McGaughy that uses drop front spindles.

Thanks for the input.

that is some crazy sh*t. a 2wd half ton truck with torsion bars. i would not think that torsion bars would perform better than coils but i dont know. and yes all HD's have torsion bars.
