do you have to trim the bezel to install the gauge? the reason im asking is because i have the bezel trim.

i will be changing my white face's gauged eventually, i hate that pos apc reverseglow. But hay it was a gift fromt he old lady so i cant complain. If she asks why i changed my gauges, ill just tell her they broke....which wouldnt be a total lie

yeah i had to trim out the black bezel around the Auto meter gauge in order for it to slide in.
If you flip the Bezel over you will see an outline of each cut out about an 1/16 - 1/8 inch from the edge. i ground the bezel down until it was the same size as that outline.
does this make since?
it's still a tight fit but i got the auto meter bezel to finally slip into the cluster bezel, just takes a little persuasion

hmm.... may still try to grind aluminum bezel down as well as plastic. Something that compliments the whiteface like yours or dakota digital...just may do it

Looks good man. Where did you hook up to make it work. I'm thinking of doing the same just don't know where to hook up to make it work. I read on this site that US Speedo has a guage kit that you just solder into the cluster to make it work.

i ran my own wiring to be able to turn the light on and off on the auto meter gauge with the dash board lights. it operates just like the rest of the instrument cluster does.
on the light swith the connector on the back of it has a green wire, this is your dimmer switch wire. it controls the instrument cluster lights. this is what i tapped into to make the trans temp gauge dim also. the 12v you can tap off of any 12v battery source. just make sure that it is not a costant hot. mine is tied into the accesaries power. it only comes on when i turn the key on. you also need to find a good ground. I used the nut inside of the fuse panel on the side of the dash board on the drivers side. you will have to scrape the paint to get a good ground. then for my trans temp gauge the other wire goes to the trans.
this help you out?
dont think you will be able to use the existing circuit board if you install the autometer trans gauge. I had to drill out some holes in the back in order to make it work. so the flat wire that originally went to operate the stock trans gauge( which i didnt have on my truck) had to be done away with. you have to be very carefull which wires you cut as you could do alot of damage to your circuit board if you cut the wrong ones.
when i get the truck back from the paint shop i will take a pic of the back to help you visualise exactly what all had to be done.

This helps on which wire to use for the dimmer on the guage. What I was asking was where did you hook up on the tranny for the guage sending unit. Did you tap in to the tranny oil line or is there a electrial connection on the tranny. Do you have pic of where you made the connection. What size is the guage 2 1/16. Sorry for all the questions but something I've been wanting to do for a while.

Thanks

Silverdoman: I'm under the impression that you want to add a trans temp gauge to your cluster. It would be easier to get a escalade or denali cluster. Your stock truck has all the wiring for the trans temp gauge in these clusters. Just plug and play.
