Default Factory in dash cd changer problems...

My '05 Sierra WT came with the base AM/FM radio. I purchased a 6 disc in dash changer that came factory in the '05 Sierra and Yukons. I simply unplugged the AM/FM radioand plugged in the cd changer. Everything works but when I turn on the radio it shows CAL ERR on the display. It goes away and it works fine. Anyone know the prolem here? Another thing it doesn't do is light up when the headlights are on. The Display is lit (duh) but none of the buttons or ***** are lit up. Any suggestions on this one? My salesman said that the CD changer might need to be programmed to the vehicle? Never heard of that on GMs. Any help on these issues would be greatly appreciated!!

I've also heard that a new radio will have to be programmed to your truck's vin # to work properly.

It's gotta go back to the dealership anyway. I'll let them have first crack at it. Wonder if they'll give me the wiring diagram for the radio.....
