I just recently did mine.....the best way is to heat the emblem up with a heat gun and peal the red letters off. Then ruff it up with a scuff pad. I applied a very small ammount of paint for the first coat so the other coats have something sticky to bond to.....i put about 4 coats on then some clear.

I just did two bowties for some friends. Like the previous guy said, I took 800 grit and wet sanded it smooth then for a metallic paint.....I did about 5 light coats so I could blend the metallic. But for a solid color, add a medium coat about 4 times and add clear on to that. Wait about 7 mins between coats of clear and I did 4 to 5 coats. Wet sand 800 grit-$3.50 and paint was about $8.

Yep i never sanded mine used a scuff pad instead....the scuff pad is equal to a certain grit of sand paper but i forget what. If you peal the letters off like i did be carefull not to heat them very much like i did....mine warped a bit and getting them back on was a real pain in the ***. If i had to do it again i would just tape everything except the letters.

sounds good i still want to leave the chrome lineing on it but i just want to switch the red to black, so basically instead of using a heat gun, another option is to sand the red off till smooth

well i dunno bout the gmc badge but the bowties, there not actually gold, theres like a gold paint INSIDE the plastic piece, its technically just like a clear plastic, i would assume the gmcs are the same way, no need to sand down that much, just scuffer up, tape and spray
