eBay LED Tail Lights
#21
When I got pulled over for tinted tails it was for 24600e: "Taillamps shall be red in color and shall be plainly visible from all distances within 500 feet to the rear except that taillamps on vehicles manufactured after January 1, 1969, shall be plainly visible from all distances within 1,000 feet to the rear."
BS part is, next time you're out driving, look at the back of a car that's 1000' ahead of you and tell me what color the tail lights are. Obviously they are red, but if you didn't know that before hand you wouldn't have a clue.
The officer I talked to said that some cars are coming from the factory now with tinted tail lights and they are giving them tickets, despite the lights being DOT legal OEM parts. Same with the lack of front plates. The TBSS tails for example are pretty dark from the factory. And the "euro" all chrome look is becoming popular where barely any of the tail light unit is red.
Bottom line is that it comes down to officer discretion. In my area, the cops are abundant and bored, they will get you for anything. I only made it 1 month with my tinted tails and windows. The LED tails I'm selling are not as tinted as the ones I got ticketed for. I would be comfortable using them, but just want to avoid the potential hassle. If I got a ticket for them I would definitely take it to court or at least get an opinion of another officer.
