Default Don't bite my head off please..

Hey guys, its about wheel rub. I'm looking at 20X8.5 wheels, +14mm offset. What size tire can I run (the biggest) without any rub at all? I like a little more meat on my wheels. Stock ride height and maybe a 2" drop in the back later.

by biggest, I assume you mean widest.

You should be able to get a 285 on there without a problem. But I would get a wheel with a little more offset, like around +30 to +32 (6" backspace)

I'd also like to run a 45 or 50 series tire. What would make the wheels flush with the fenders?

The above would get you there. But a 285/50 would be a little more than an inch over stock height.

So, you might want to just go with a 275/45 in order to maintain something close to stock height. In which case, you might get away with using your mentioned +14mm offset wheel.

I personally would go with a 6" backspace, but I do know many people on the board here are running a 8.5" wide with 5.3 - 5.5" backspace (your +14mm would be a 5.3" backspace).

I have 20x8.5 with a 275/55/20 6" BS. Goodyear Eagle LS same as factory puts on and they rub on the front at full turning. Sit flush with fenders. 04 Silv. ECSB

275/55 is what I have and they definitely fill up the fenders. I have the 2" shackles on the rear also. mine will slightly rub on the front if I turn all the way and hit a bump. during normal driving they don't.

this is the same size tire that the joe gibbs and SS silverados come with. they are some 'meaty' tires.

I'm running a 8-inch wide wheel with 5 inches of backspace and they sit flush. I also got 285/50/20 tires with a 2.5 rear drop and they don't rub at all; there's plenty of clearance.

With only a 2" drop in the rear, a 5.5" backspace would be about perfect with like a 275/55/20. That is the stock tire from a Silverado SS, so you can get them pretty cheap.
