it would be safe to say that clay doesn't remove any clear. once you use it, you will realize how little the collateral damage is. it just leaves behind micro scratches that really only show up on black(LIKE EVERYTHING SHOWS UP ON BLACK) don't kill yourself trying to do these useless steps by hand.your shoulders and back will be shot to no avail! like brightteal said, stick with an otc clay and wax and wait till you can get a machine on it to take any of the scratches off. good luck

Before you buy any material. You should wash it and dry it and do the clay bar test. After you washed and dried the vehicle, get a Ziploc bag and put your hand in it. Run your had over the hood. This way you can feel the contaminants, now you can understand what your dealing with.

You need to use the two bucket method with a grit guard. To help reduce the marring.

yeah thats it. but i agree a buffer does a helluva job and less work!
