Default Chrome on mirrors

I have the chrome inserts on my '02 mirrors. I want them black like on the Tahoes. How should I go about this? Can I order a new insert from the dealer or do I have to paint the ones that I have. If they must be painted, how should this be done? Thanks!

You will be able to order them from the dealership you want. It probably would be easier to do that than paint them since you dont have to worry about matching the black and doing all the prep work, but I'm just lazy like that!

Have a boday shop paint them for you; probably be around $30. Or do what I did; wait until you have something larger painted by the body shop and then usually they will just throw that in since there's leftover paint. He didn't think it would hold up to the highway driving but it has.

How does the chrome come off? I think I may just try and paint them first.

Thanks,

i would just buy the factory painted ones on ebay or from somewere else. i painted mine on my 99 sierra and it came out great but got rock chips and redone them several times because im a perfectionest. when i got my 02 sierra i bought some factory painted ones and have had no problems , theres something about factory paint that just holds up to the abuse of the road. just some advise from someone who has done it both ways and you will probaly come out cheaper in the long run.

its just held on with double sided tape , get a flathead screwdriver carfully under one side and gently pry it up. take your time and dont mess the chrome ones up and sell them on ebay , i got 25$ for mine. the new ones come with new tape , just peel and stick!
