i attempted sanding the textures plastic bumper cap to get ready for paint but stopped. the bumper cap was very overwhelming size wise and didn't comply with the sand paper very much. it was much easier to buy a smoothed cap in my situation, and i would assume in yours too. they were steep, but i bought my esky door handles from a guy on ebay and i am very happy with them, mainly cuz i didn't have in labor in them!!

its possible. but i say plus one with wesley burks. if u do FOR SURE want to paint the orig. peaces...u have to get a good adhesion promoter, (filler primer, ect) and apply, and sand, apply and sand, ect....then you pray that it doesn't bubble or peel. (just make your life easier... buy the paintable ones. your truck deserves the extra effort!)

Yeah Its not that bad. start with 200 then wet sand with 400 then spray adhesion promoter, followed by a coat of high fill primer. then maybe some more wet sanding with 800 then if it looks good. they spray with your paint.

I started with 180 on an handheld orbital sander, then cleaned it up with 400 by hand. Did the mirrors, handles, tailgate handle, rear bumper (W/T), tailgate cap, front cover and bowtie. I used single stage white, but didn't use the adhesion promoter (bad move) , just filling primer. Someone hit my front bumper cover and its cracking and starting to peel. I have touch up paint holding it together for now.

i would have definitely painted alot myself if my truck wasnt exposed to harsh elements daily. especially since its impossible to paint in your garage with 90-100% humidity everyday, and temps that are constantly 30 degrees above all companies recommended painting temps. i live on the mississippi coast and the truck stays outside 100% of the time. i can only imagine what my truck would say if it could talk.
