wow that really makes a difference i like it alot. i dont know if you really need to go thru color sanding and everything a little orange peal wont hurt much and besides its gonna take a beating from bugs and stone chips and such so it doesnt need to be perfect.

Yep. Not going to color sand it. I'll wear it down over time just washing and buffing the bugs off it. Don't know what I did different. Other than a different gun but the orange peel on this piece is very minimal.

Only way to learn is do it. Always has been my motto. Painting so far in my experience is 90% prep work. Mostly sanding. Spraying has been the fun part.

For the cap I put on about 5 coats of high build primer. You will see the grain disappear. 2-3 hours of wet sanding from there with 600 grit paper.

Looks good. I am thinking about painting the grille surrounding on my truck. I hope it turns out okay, I have been taking note of all your advice!

is your truck deep carmine red? other than mine i have seen very very few of that color (the top half neways)
