i am probably gunna do this in the near future. but i'm gunna use all the parts from the front of a z71 tahoe. from what i've read and my own experiences, there is no good way to prep for painting over chrome.
but if you insist, you could always sand for days and days, or better yet get it sandblasted.

what do you do to prep the plastic cover on the top of the bumper? i'm thinking about a new smoothie front bumper with two 3" fog light holes that i can use to bring air to my air box!!!! it'll be painted white with the bottom 2" black. i was gonna paint the bumper also but just like the smoothie one better, and it's cheap.

Why don't you just get a bumper cover?
I had a semi throw a rock and put a nice dent in my front bumper, so it would be nice to fix it and lose some weight at the same time. An aluminum front bumper would be nice, too...
Thanks for any ideas...

I had my whole front end painted by a friend of mine about 9 months ago and the paint is still holding up. He bought something to apply on the chrome pieces to get the paint to stick to it. I'm not sure what it's called but i know it's out there.

I had my mirror covers done. He used like 5 layers of stuff in all and it is holding up good for over a year. But there are about 5 small rock chips that I have had to touch up.
