Hi fellas,I have a chance to purchase a 69 Chevy Pickup, the classic body everyone loves.It has a 307 V8, original AC,all interior parts work with 75000 original miles.It has some rust on the underside of the cab and in bottom of doors, but it is sound.It cranks on first try everytime without pumping gas.Its a fleetside shortbed and has not been modified in any way.Its a truck I been tryn to get from a retiree for about 12 yrs and he is goin blind with cataracts and he is giving me 1st dibs.What you guys think is a good offer?He has gave me a ballpark figure but I just want some feedback...

Since it is a shortbed with very little rust, try >$10K from anyone else. $8K is a reasonable offer, maybe a little on low side, but definitely a good starting price.
The last time I try getting a 67-72 SB (68) C10, cost was $8K. This truck had no engine, no tranny, heavy rust around the fender wells and passenger side floor, and no interior what so ever. This truck was just a frame and body. The owner of this truck sold it out from under me, after I had a $2,000 deposit, and he sold it to someone else for $12K.

Here in Cali, you can't touch something like that for under 8K. The 69 is the look I like because it has the sleeker front end, but unfortunately has drum brakes in front. How much rust are you talking about and do you plan to tear into it? The truck may be original, but how good does it look? There are a lot of companies that manufacture/sell replacement parts for those trucks so parts are easy. Another thing you'll want to check is the condition of the wiring. I've had this era Chevy, and there can be a lot of work ahead of you if you don't fully inspect it. If the truck is as good as you say, make him an honest offer compared to other trucks that may be in your area. Who knows, he may come back and say that he couldn't possibly take that much money from you. Congrats on the good find, I'll be looking for a project like this soon enough.

There are rust spots but the main problem I see is in the corners of the body underneath the truck.Seems like the only way to fix it would be to pull the body from the frame.Any other spots can be replaced with new body panels.It also has a wood bed thats in good shape meaning all the wood is there with planks.It can be very nice with a resto kit.He has a camper top on the bed, it looks corny but it has helped preserve the bed.It was sanded and primered gray about 10 yrs ago and thats how it remains.All the body trim is in the shed in boxes.You can honestly get in this truck and drive to wherever you want without a hiccup.I will confess, before I even looked close at the truck he said he would let me get it for around $2,300.After seeing it Im thinking what a steal.The guy is a really nice person and would give it to me for 2 grand if I made an offer I believe...

I absolutely love the 69 Chevy Fleetsides. I know a guy up here in NC that wants to sell me a 69 for $500. The body is in good shape other than a few rust spots. Nothing too bad though. There is no motor or tranny in it either. I think I might go for it because of the crazy prices everyone has mentioned above. Sorry that this was off topic.

If you have a place to work on it, I'd say buy it before someone else does. That's cheap for starting out on a new project and if you get it all fixed up it should retain its value. I bought a 72 Blazer out of Utah for $4300, cleaned it up for another $600, and sold it here in Cali for $8900. And that thing was far from perfect.
