I think you need to change out the harness too.

My parts guy told me that the harnesses are a "non serviceable" item meaning that you have to order the taillights AND the harnesses all as one package deal.

DO NOT try to order just the taillights.

You do need the harness, but the lights do come with it.

Check Ebay, that is where I got mine for 100.00 or so.

True, you cannot order just the harness for the 03 tail as they come as an assembly. If you can get them with the harness it is a 10 min swap and e-bay is a great source for the tails. I just swapped the tails on my 03 GMC for the 03 Chevy tails and I didn't have the harness. Two ways to do it though, you can swap them and live wothout the extra forth bulb for the lights which a lot of people do. Or you can do what I did and go to AutoZone and pick up a couple replacement license plate lights, and a couple 194 bulbs. I used a couple quick connectors and spliced the lights in the harness and a little trimming on the socket areas and done. 30 min tops for the swap and about 7 dollars at AZ!

On my 2001 tails, the sockets were completely different than the 2003's. Maybe the 2003 GMC uses the same sockets as the 2003 Chevy??

My tails came from a buddy that was shaving the taillights on his '03, so all I got were the lenses. I had to get the harness with the correct connectors from a junkyard. Try finding a 2003 truck bed in a junkyard when it's still 2002!

I actually found someone who does utility bed conversions here locally that had the harness by itself. Lucky me...

Well on my 02 Chevy I swapped just taillights.

I do not have the 03 harness or 4th bulb. I had to slightly file some of the sockets on the 03 lenses, but nothing major. I will try to get pics ASAP (truck is actually clean!!!)

The sockets are not exactly the same but a couple minutes with a file and they fit just fine. You have to rotate a couple sockets a little more but they go in fine.
