Default 03+ taillight conversion on 01 truck...

I have been trying to search for the thread about the 03-05 taillight conversion on the 99-02 trucks but cant seem to find it, should have saved it as a favorite... anyhow, I got my 03+ tails and had the harnesses and spliced them in... i was wondering if anyone knew of where that post was about the wiring bc i think i have a ground problem. With the headlights on the brake lights seem to be really bright and when i hit the brake they just brighten slightly... and when i press on the brake with the truck off, the dash lights will come on and the front parking lights will come on, but just barely... did i need a reisitor anywhere?

pics would help to, or just that thread of the tail light conversion.. bc i'm kinda confused, i thought it was just a plug and splice and go setup... i beleive it was Scream that did the thread.

TIA
- Joe.

This is the one I used, worked like a charm...I dunno if it is what you're looking for though

Sounds like you might have spliced into the brake light wire instead of the running light wire or something.

thx... that was one of them i was looking for. But, i really shouldnt be having any trouble bc the harnesses came with it..i matched up all the colors and only thing i had to splice in was the 194 blinker and i just spliced that with the turn signal... it has something to do with that bc the parking lights also double for the turn signals in the front and when i hit the brakes those lights also come on in the front.. but the blinker works so i'm lost.. maybe i wasnt supposed to tap the blue wire in with the blue and black to black... i have a feeling that make it was blue to black and black to brown? idk

TTT...

this is what I have: 03+ harness.. spliced in the black to black, green to green, lt blue to lt blue and drk blue to drk blue... i had the other 2 black wires also spliced into the black wire coming off of the harness but having them connected or not didnt make a difference in the problem I'm having. (im going to guess the blk wires are grounds)...

I thought it would be simplier with the harness... however idk why i'm having these problems. The blinkers work great. But when I press the brake, the front parking lights engage, lol. And also, at nite, the third brake light stays on and when I put on the brake the lights just get barely brighter...almost like my brake lights are on all the time at nite. I'm sure the problem is simple.. maybe im missing something... help please

Maybe I'm missing something here, but if you have the '03 taillights AND the wiring harness that goes with them, why are you splicing wires? It's a plug and play scenario.

you have to splice in the wires that are coming off of your truck and into the wires coming off of the harness... the reason for the harness is bc the 99-02 sockets wont fit w/o some type of modification to them and also the new tails have an extra blinker (194 blub at the bottom)

Whoa! If you have the new harness, intact, from plug to sockets - all you do is unplug the original harness and plug in the new harness. The harness plugs in under the driver's side of the rear bumper.

thanks for taking those pics... i was looking at that. Than i guess i dont have ALL of the harness, lol. All i had was the sockets and the wires were cut off and so i just spliced in my stock wires into those. Sorry i wasnt clear... i didnt realize that when you say "the whole harness" that meant what you are showing there in the second picture you took. Thanks for taking the time to take those pics for me...i think maybe i need to find someone who is just selling the harnesses and redue it that way... i dont think anyone is actually selling JUST the harness w/o the lights.. but i can try, lol
