New Mustang GT goes down like a...
#1
I know it's a mini-novel so bear with me.
Anyway... I've got some crazy leaks in my IC piping that I've been working on for the past few weeks. I've been tightening and re-tightening bolts but I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to replace all the pipe, move my intercooler to the bumper and build a new pair of forward facing manifolds. Right now, with the 7psi wastegate spring in place I'm only seeing about 1psi in 1st and no more than 2.5psi in 2nd-4th at wot. So, needless to say it's only seeing between 14% and 30% available boost at wot. That said, I haven't been actively seeking any races.
I normally drive my Pathfinder or one of my vans to work but on days I take my 3 year old to school she likes to ride in the truck (That's my girl!) She loves the turbo whistle and the blow off valve whoosh. We'll be driving and she'll say make it go fast... now keep in mind, this is just me gassing it enough to build a little boost to get the blow off valve to sound off... I never put my children in danger.
Anyway, I drop her off at school and as I'm pulling out of the parking lot a new Mustang GT is pulling out of the apartment complex directly across the street. I pull into the median as he's pulling into the first lane, I merge over to the outside lane and he kicks it to get by me. It's got a loud exhaust, maybe even straight pipes, the windows are dark tinted but the driver window was down so I see the driver... probably late 20's. Anyway, he guns it to get by me and then he whips into the lane I'm in, so I merge into the inside lane and I gas it to get by him. I don't let off until I'm far enough ahead so not to take a chance on him hearing my bov as it's on the drivers side (with his exhaust and passenger window up he probably wouldn't have heard it anyway). We ride sorta side by side for probably another 200 yards, each of us pulling ahead and falling behind until we get stopped by a red light. I'm at the front on the inside lane and he's behind a panel van on the outside. I figure this is how I'll know if he wants to go, when the light goes green I gas it and get in front of the panel van, the GT swings into the inside lane and pulls up next to me. There is another red light about 100 yards ahead and we are both in front, so we sorta slow poke to get caught by the light, which we did.
At the light his driver's window is down and my passenger window is up but we can still see each other through the tint. He throws a rev at me and I brake stall to the verge of breaking the tires loose. Keep in mind I'm driving on 275-50-17 M&H Racemasters, had them on for about 3 weeks now wanting to get to the track (once the boost leaks are fixed). Anyway, the light goes green and he dumps the clutch and I go all out. The M&H's break loose for only a second and then they hook and go. The GT had a little trouble getting off the line but it would not have done him a bit of good. When my truck went from 1st to 2nd I had about 2 1/2 on him and by the time it went into 3rd I had probably somewhere between 6 -10 lenghts on him. I let out at about 75 since we were in a 45 and the dude pulls the gayest ricer fly by I have ever seen. I had already got on my brakes and put my turn signal on so I could whip around and jump on the Interstate when he rolls by doing about 80-85, he honks and throws his hazards on... wth?!?!?
I still can't get over that little move.

Nice kill but can someone please explain the hazard lights on when racing please. You see it all the time but why? I've had it done to me several times and expecially if they are in a pack. They have lost everytime. Is it a signal that they are about to get outrun?
