Default gmc vs. chevy

So i'm driving home trying to save gas and I go through a light right as it turns green while on cruise control and see a single cab chevy floor it as I fly by to catch up. He gets up to my speed and then starts accelerating. I then I'm no 12 second truck,..(yet ) but i have 4.10s, exhaust and some mild hp tuning. I pull one truck length, three, four, six, and then he ****** out because I'm going about 105 mph. Lights come up quick at that speed and my turn is at that the next light. I'm off the gas but still hauling some ***** so I start to gear brake and lightly pedal brake. I'm in second gear and getting really close to home and hes right next to me. I thumbs up for the good race and he starts to tap his throttle, soo I start to catch up and the bastard goes. I'm still in second I floor it and pull about three lengths instantly, scared the **** out of him. I love 4.10s. 6k comes up quick and I forgot that fast that I was still in second he catches up, I get in over drive and then slowely start pulling away again. next light comes up I'm laughing my *** off. He rolls down his window and I'm tell him the dumb *** I was forgetting about my column shifting retardedness. He says dang man what do have on your truck? I said just exhaust and some Hp tuning. And then he says<" hey bro what you need to get is a hyper tuner. Thats what I have... " Dude I just smoked the **** outta him, fucked up and beat him again!!! Why the **** would I want what he had. I then said, " I'm building a 408 stroker.wont need that." he then just took off. I didn't even waste my time trying to explain.

Nice kill!! Does seem kinda weird that he would be suggesting mods when he got worked over kinda good.
Quick question...in another thread I read that the 5.3 weren't fitted with the manual stick shifts. From you thread I understood you drive a stick soo....just wondering how you got a stick? Did they have special orders or did you do a swap, engine or god knows why your tranny from auto to manual?
Long winded but nice kill again!

Nice kill! If you knew what was good for you, you would get a Hypertech...haha! I think he is talking about his column shifter...he doesn't have a manual.

Yeah I try not to be an *** so I figured he was just trying to help. I just hate hearing the hypertech. About the transmission. Automatic. I guess I didn't explain myself well enough. At high speed , our factory brakes aren't really efficient at slowing down quickly. And I hate slaming the brakes and going into abs so I column shift down to third, then second.Helps slow down the engine alot

I'm pretty sure that 99 was actually the last year that you could order a 6l with a a five speed manual from the factory . I was not one of the chosen

Oh, thanks for the clear up. Is'nt down shifting in an auto hard on the tranny? I do it in my manual all the time but can't imagine it's good for the auto. I have no clue about trannies though, just asking.

Oh I'm sure it isn't good but since I gave my builder 50% down on the stroker build, I've been running the truck hard to get whatever is left out of the old 5.3 (147,000 miles). When the new engine is in, an 80e will be going in as well as some supposedly "great performance brakes!" We shall see how good the 408 is at slowing down
