this is def your best bet right here

is your truck heavy half or a light duty? a way you can tell is count the bolts on your rear differential if you dont already just know what it is

go count how many bolts there are on the rear differential and ill tell you if it is or not. an heavy 1/2 ton is simply a half ton suspension wit a beefed up suspension... some of them have 14 bolt rear ends, but they are still 6 lug, if you have a heavy half ton you might not have to build stuff as much as if you had a light duty half ton which is basically your standard 10 bolt rear end with a 4L60E transmission

ya so your gonna wanna build things such as the tranny and rear end. for example, im putting a LS1 (camaro Z28) motor in my truck, obvoiusly my tranny will have trouble holding up bein its in a 4100 lb vehicle. now you can either build the tranny you have which is the road im electing but only cause im broke, or you can buy a 4L80E dependin on how much HP you want and how your plannin on driving it. in your case it just seems like you wanna be able to run 14s-15s. a good thing to do would be to look into putting a 383 stroker in there. "Dock Rocker" has one in his old body style pickup... if i remember correctly its probably a pretty cheap build being that small block chevys are EVERYWHERE and everyone does work on them. the 4L60E should be able to withhold that kinda power as long as you dont beat your truck stop light to stop light and you dont go to over board (nitrous, blower etc)

First things first...strip off the molding!! It's been on there for a while and everyone has their own method but mine's WD40 and some fishing line. That'll get you started on the right foot. Truck looks good for 15 yr old.
