I thought about that actually but I was thinking about capping off the heater core and bridging the water pump and running the line off the rad to a smaller expansion tank(quart size) that I could tuck in the front passenger corner up against the rad support

1 port on bottom goes to water pump, and the side port goes to the radiator
If you want to delete the heater core, cap the other bottom fitting and cap the rear fitting on the water pump.
If you want to keep the heater core, run the bottom fitting to the heater core, and the rear waterpump port to the other side of the heater core.
If you dont like that particular design I can make it any shape or size you want.

Id like to avoid lines running to the pump if possible, that hot side is killing me. Was hoping if the fitting on the tank was welded low enough it could still bleed any air in the system or pull fluid as needed from the rad?

No, you need to have something running to the waterpump inlet to fill the system, unless you swap to a radiator that has a cap on it. You can pull out the stock fitting and thread it for 1/2"npt and use an elbow. I did this at one point. The stock fitting is pressed in and is the perfect size for a 1/2" npt tap.
