a faulty liquid filled gauge. as the liquid would heat up, the needle would show BS numbers.

what kind of idle and cruise timing figures are typical of an EFI engine? I'm also getting into MAP tuning with this MSD ignition box. I was thinking 35* idle and anywhere between 35-40* at cruise speed with 36* at WOT. I currently have it idling and cruising around 40* based on rpm only. i originally had idle at 24* and realized that the engine runs a lot cooler at 40* idle. the idle cleaned up a lot and it stinks less too. off idle is more crisp and the engine doesn't diesel as bad when i turn it off. it doesn't have a huge diesel problem but my DCR is border line for pump 93.

Interesting. It would be fun to tinker with your setup.

That is crazy idle timing compared to what i run. I shoot for 20*. I have alot milder setup thou.

I originally set the tune to 24* because that's what worked for me in the past. it has to have something to do with the single plane intake and the carburetor. remember I'm on a 110lsa with a 106ICL. then the carburetor gives a cooler charge. that's my best guess anyways. the timing that everyone runs with carb setups has me scratching my head. some guys are running 39* at WOT and gaining mph as they do it. from looking at other tunes on cars that work great, I think my truck will take 36* at WOT at 11.4ish:1 compression. crazy but I'll keep giving it timing until I don't gain any MPH.

I think I'm going to plug up the vacuum gauge to determine my idle timing. is 35-45* timing normal for part throttle cruising? I haven't looked at an EFI tune in a LONG time. don't have HP anymore so I cant grab a file to look at it.

I have read more than a few times that carb guys can pull some wicked timing. So of the old gray beards i work with used to run 50* at wot in small blocks.

I say keep letting it eat until it does not like it anymore.

So when are you pouring the nitrous to it?

after I get it hooking on the trans brake I guess. I'd like to milk the motor for all that it's worth before spraying it. I'm more of a N/A guy I guess. nitrous makes a weekend expensive. I also need to send the converter out for a re-stall before nitrous.

I know it's not the same but my brother Monte Carlo with a 355 13.1cr we are running 38-40 degrees and it loves every second of it.
