Default Relocating the fuel cell

Heya guys, here are a few pics from last weeks project. With the bed off I took advantage of getting access to mounting the fuel cell.

Before, in the bed behind the cab.

Mounted the adjustable FPR downstream of the carb and hooked it up to manifold vacuum.

I also salvaged the internals of the old LED tail lights from the busted housings and mounted & wired them up.

I'm also playing around with exhaust again. I'm going to mount the mufflers as close as possible to the front of the axle and leave them dumped. What do you think sounds better?

And don't give me the 'Get a magnaflow or borla/corsa/bullet...' These are the mufflers I currently have, and I don't intend on purchasing new mufflers. I like FM's, and they work just fine on the street and track.

Cheers ~Mykk

If I had to choose...I'd say the 44's...they are louder which is better, but a lil raspier usually.

Looks like in th pis you have an older style 350 or something...I had an 86 with a built 350 and the 40's sounded great though. Hard to tell in a video

Looks good Mykk...guess that you'll have to drop the fuel cell to service the rear now huh...no biggie. Looking forward to seeing how it looks with the bed on.

BTW...get a Magnaflow

J/K I think that I like the 44's better between the two...

When the truck is lifted by the frame the axle will hang enough for the rear cover to clear the fuel cell. Not much room, but just enough.

according to my measurements, the AC Cobra style fuel door will sit just below the floor of the bed. I will need to cut a hole big enough to open the latch & filler door but it shouldn't be a big deal.

This project looks all too familiar!!
When I did mine I was hesitant to cut the cross member that you cut due to the fact that drivers side shock mount was located on that cross member. After looking at yours I can see that it really doesn't make that much difference as it's probably still plenty strong to handle the load.
I like your gas cap, might have to steal that idea from you, what sensor is in the middle of the gas tanks and what's the rubber hose on the top left side of the gas tank for? (opposite the breather)

Looks good man!

I was hesitant too, but I hastily made the executive decision to cut it. If anything, I would always weld in another frame crossmember if there appears to be too much frame flex

Good looking project. If your worried about frame flex a 3by5 rect tube fits nicely back there. At least thats what I used when I cut the x-members outta my truck
