How do the lobes on that cam look? Hopefully no rust like on the end. Do you know what size valves are in the heads and what the combustion chamber volume is?
Lobes are good, not sure why the end of the cam looks like that. Chambers are 58cc. Valves are 2.02 Intake 1.575 Exhaust. All of this is per Texas Speeds website
Well, looks like I am going to see how slow this thing is... bought a pair of Race Stars and some M/T 315/50R17 drag radials. Tentatively will be going to the track on the 19th of this month.
How many miles did you put on it since last year?
I am assuming you did make your track date on the 19th lol
Not many, I was still driving my 2002 Tahoe daily before I sold it this past June. Have yet to get to the track... hell, never got my tires mounted. I need to do that soon, cooler weather is on the way.
I already slammed some junk together and got the truck back up and running. It's a 2002 LQ4 long block out of a Denali, 862 heads, Texas Speed CHOPacabra cam and matching valve springs. Had it retuned on 93, not really impressed by the numbers. But, it runs really well for junkyard parts - as in excellent oil pressure, doesn't overheat, is reliable.
My torque converter did some strange stuff on the dyno. Possibly it wants to leave the chat too. Might be replacing that soon before it fails and destroys the transmission. I have a few converters to pick from.
Goal is to make a few passes, try not to puke when I see how slow it is. Then get my other engine together with the better top end parts.
Got the converter swapped and the tires mounted finally. Getting some wheel hop on my street tires since the converter. Next task is to install the Speed Engineering traction bars.

Traction bars are on, they work - no more wheel hop. They hit the tires hard, my street tires are worthless at anything under 30 MPH.
Not so great news, my good friend that did all my tuning for the past 20 years closed up shop and moved out of state. So I either need to find a new tuner, or get unlazy and learn HPT.
Still trying to find a day/time to get to the track and see how it performs as is. I'm happy to report that the junkyard engine still has great oil pressure and runs well.
