Jack's 2008 Silverado build

lol that’s what I like to hear. I’m gonna be turboing my hoe with a 60e. Have two other trans if I smoke this one but I figured I’d start on low boost as well and incrementally turn it up.

I was on a centri, so it was easy on the trans leaving lights and stuff, but she went WOT a lot. And had many 4-2 downshifts. 33s w/ 4.10 the last ~60k
Transgo shift improvement kit
Corvette Servo
Let my tuner play with settings
Stock converter
aux trans cooler
She spent over 100k under my ownership and got hot several times in the desert before I learned about coolers and 4lo and driving smart. You could say "we've grown together". Procharger put the hurt on her empty and loaded. Maybe even overloaded on the way to LS Fest
I am not saying the 60e is a stout transmission at all, I am simply saying I have had good luck with mine, until very recently. 10yrs of mods and beating on her, finally broke to the point I feel I need to get it taken care of (lost overdrive ~11/20 and broke first gear 11/21, about 13k mi driven without OD lmao) Drove about 150mi shifting 2-3 manually too hahaha
I never did say I was smart

I feel like they get a way worse reputation then they really are. I’ve had buddies blow them from running them out of fluid and burn up the 3-4 clutches. I’ve also had buddies toast 4l80e trans right after swapping them for the same reason. In Oregon it’s almost impossible to find a 4l80e trans for under 1200 bucks, the ones you can find are 300+k miles and they still want top dollar for them. Only way I know to get my hands on one is having enough spare time to go to the u pull it that’s an hour away at least once a week for the next few months till something with one comes in.
also one of my buddies with a cammed 5.3l ecsb silverado went from a 4l60e to a 4l80e and I was really surprised at how much slower it felt. On my dyno he made 343/330tq my tahoe made 330/377tq stock cam, his had a 212/218 tsp stage 2 low lift truck cam. When he had his 4l60e in it it hauled *** now it just feels like the brakes are halfway on lol.

I agree 4l80e's are dogs in a stock or n/a application or even with the factory converter.
This truck runs mad with the 4l60e.. but for how long
The power levels I'm shooting for, I just don't want to have a thought that I might cook another 4l60e.
I will say though I've been happy with the factory 4l60e, I've beaten the **** outta it.

thats good to hear. I wanna build one as I have one apart on my work bench and like to do my own thing whenever possible. I need to spend some more time researching the best way to go about it, I know performabuilt emphasizes larger bushings and oiling mods I just need to inform myself more on it before digging in.
