A completely different kind of project.

The IAC on my 89 got dirty and the truck wouldnt even idle, I had to two foot it all the way home from work one day and clean the IAC.
You might be able to keep it running by having it idle high with a set screw holding the blade open. But its going to idle high in park in order to make it idle in gear.

Exactly. And another reason for the blade to get stuck besides the expansion is the fact that rust will form inside of it with it being steel and could cause it to bind up. This is why they make them from Aluminummmmmmmmm.

Since justin is goung to be tuning it why dont you ask him how it is going to idle without at iac sensor. Also what size cam are you runnng?
Like others have mentioned it is a safety issue. You maybe the a great machinist but is it really worth risking just to save 150?

When it gets cold out with humidity, the steel will form a condensation on the outside and inside causing rust. Its bare metal. And yes, the old iron intakes did rust over time, but they didnt have a throttle blade moving open and closed on the inside of them either so it was not that important. The possibility of rust is just one problem with this thing, along with the others mentioned. Your wanting to go over 100mph a few feet away from other drivers and fans on a socket welded to a hunk of steel .

gotta love it.
