500 rwhp with that setup in that truck, with a 4l80e would only happen in fantasy land.

With 37" tires I'd say you'd be lucky to dyno mid 300s. It might be more advisable to do a reliable turbo setup in the big truck and save the N/A setup for the '69

Son of a *****! Well could I make 450-500 hp at crank with a 6.0 that is reliable and streetable? Screw the whole rear wheel horsepower, that is going out the window!

I would love to, yet can't, do to the class rules.

So would would be a good setup for a LQ4 6.0 all motor to reach 450-500 hp at the crank, while still being reliable and streetable?

Thanks for all the help guys! Going to look at a clean '02 silverado after work today. If the guys word holds true be coming home with the truck. Than gather parts for a month and get the swaps under way, so stoked!

Yes, I daily drive a head/cam 6.0 backed by a 4l80e and 4.10s that makes around 500 at the crank. I drive it everyday and it drives just like stock.

In fact, to reach your goal of 450-500 crank HP, you won't even need to change the stock heads. A good camshaft should get you there pretty easily.

There are some 5.7-6.0s over on the car version of this site making slightly north of 500 rwhp, but that's with every bolt on imaginable, ported $$$ intakes, light drivetrains, etc.

GMCtrk you my friend, thank you so much! Just looked on craigslist and found a '07 LQ4 30k miles for $950, has all accessories, wiring, complete motor. Hoping the person still has it! Good news to hear on the cam swap, if I want more power I could throw a set of L92/LS3heads on. How much power do those heads offer over the factory ones?

Once I get the swap done and suspension in, I will probably add more bolt on parts and such to gain some extra ponies. Main focus now is to have a off road play truck again.

I don't really know how much more power the LS3 heads would provide, it would depend on the correct camshaft for those heads too. But if you look at those 5.7s-6.0s making over 500 to the wheels, you'll see the vast majority of them run aftermarkets cathedral port type heads (mainly Trickflow, AFR).

Also, if you want to switch to the LS3 style square head you will need a different intake manifold which opens it's whole can of worms itself.

Sounds like I am going to add a cam for now (what cam)? Drive it for a while than swap heads and have the supporting mods to handle everything needed for new heads. Woohoo learning how to make chevy power, LOL!

You can still go with a Pat G custom cam. He has been pumping out a lot of 222/226 cams lately and with good reason! I love mine. They are all slightly different in their own way and are specific to your set up (LSA, advance, and Lobes). If you go that route you could easily upgrade to a nice set of AFR heads for more power down the road. That would make 500 HP easy. I'm on stock heads with this fairly mild cam and I would say I am at just about 450 crank HP myself. I run on the stock converter and still managed to run a 13.85. With a converter I'm looking at a 13.2 or so, and with heads I'd be gunning for a 12. Thats all in a crew cab 4x4 too!
