But yet the stepsides are the heaviest of the 6' 6" beds.

This same stuff comes up in every single weight conscious thread that had been posted here over the years...

im just saying his logic that the plastic beds are light, because they are plastic, is flawed.

all the beds are metal, just some of the fenders are plastic.

is there an actual weight listing somewhere?

PRO-TEC Advantages:

The PRO-TEC box gives you more payload capability because it’s nearly 50 pounds lighter than the standard Silverado box. And the concentrated load-carrying capacity of the PRO-TEC tailgate is tested to 400 lbs. over the capacity of the standard steel tailgate.

Unlike spray-on liners, where upfitters often take a grinder and grind the inside of the pickup box and tailgate to provide a gripping surface, there are no "liners" with the PRO-TEC design. The entire PRO-TEC pickup box (bed, inner panels, outer panels and rear fenders) and tailgate are constructed of durable injection-molded composite material, and are professionally mounted at the factory to meet GM quality standards. That means the entire pickup box and tailgate are rugged enough for most of your toughest jobs.

The PRO-TEC pickup box has a cleanable grain-textured surface, which helps provide skid resistance and load security with bulkhead dividers, two-tier loading, stake pockets and ten cargo tie-downs. Spray-on liners, on the other hand, offer too much skid resistance because they are often made of a non-skid, abrasive surface texture to help keep loads secure. Moving heavy equipment over the textured spray-on liner surface can be challenging. Spray-on liner surfaces are also difficult to clean.

PRO-TEC Features:

The pickup box bed, inner panels, outer panels, rear fenders and tailgate are all constructed of durable PRO-TEC composite material.

To help you store, transport and secure loads, the dependable PRO-TEC one-piece inner pickup box provides all the benefits of a steel pickup box such as bulkhead dividers, two-tier loading capability, stake pockets and ten cargo tie-downs.
The PRO-TEC pickup box features a unique, service-friendly design. In the event you have to replace any interior PRO-TEC panels, they are easy to remove and replace thanks to snap-on fasteners, adhesive and/or bolts. A well-trained technician is capable of removing or mounting a body panel in a matter of minutes. This can help reduce the time your Silverado is at your Chevy dealership or repair facility.
The protective stainless-steel tailgate top-edge helps prevent chipping when you're carrying long 2x4s or ladders.

I would like to do the carbon fiber front clip and at one time had it on the to do list while it was at the chassis shop. Time and money never got right for it though. After everything that I went through on this build I only netted 400 lbs of weight loss. That is pretty discouraging considering the things that I have already done. It makes me very skeptical of getting below 3900 easily.

This is some serious race truck stuff going on here. It is pretty impressive to me you have been able to get as light as you have on a largely stock body/frame. These trucks weigh what 4800lbs stock, then add all the goodies like roll cages, monster prochargers, inter coolers, and other safety stuff. Then trying to drop down over 1000lbs ain't easy.

have you modified your stock cross member yet? s10 guys are losing roughly 20lbs by doing this. the silverado frame is a lot beefier than the s10 so i could see possibly 25-30 lbs off of your nose.

Agreed. I tried to estimate....the cage is about 80-90 lbs, the entire supercharger system with a2w is probably around 150 lbs, the bed cover and wing might be 20 lbs at most, the move to stiff slicks with tubs added near 15 lbs, also I almost forgot filling the block and welding the heads has probably added near 15 lbs..........

3900 ready to race. Truck is currently 4110 ready to race. 3870 without me in it. I'm 240.

I am doing that right now. But I can tell you weight savings will be about half what you are thinking. The total section I cut out weighed a little over 10 lbs I think. I'll probably add back 3-4. Either those s10 guys are lying or.......
