I've been shopping for a 400 or 455 block but keep coming up empty handed. I found one guy on Staten Island that had a 455 bare block but wouldn't send pictures or even check on the condition of it. He bought it in a lot years ago and said it was good to go. He said the bores were filled with grease for storage and I should take his word for it. I wasn't going to drive 4 hours one way for junk. Another guy in Richmond had some 400 blocks but they looked trashed in the pics. Another dude in MD had a 455 block I asked him to send a picture and he couldn't be bothered to do that he said it was STD bore. I asked him if he mic'ed it and he said no??? HAH I even made contact with a guy here in Alexandria that was abandoning this project he had a shortblock heads intake etc. I kept asking him for prices and he wouldn't give me the time of day. It's like he wasn't trying to sell or was gate keeping. It was a weird experience. I don't know what it is with people selling Pontiac stuff and being too lazy to give detailed info or send pictures. I've had no luck tracking down goods. A mild 455 build probably would be enough for me. I'm not sure if I want to spend the money on it at this point especially considering it isn't an original 400/455 car. While looking for cars a couple years ago I did see a nice Lemans Sport blue/blue with a 455. It looked fully restored and was for sale in the mid 20's. Guy wouldn't take pictures of the undercarriage though and the car was all the way in MA.

I have heard of some people building 350s for boost or just shooting them with nitrous. I believe the group is called Pontiac Odd *****. They only build 350 and smaller motors. I looked into building the 350 but research indicated to me that performance potential was very limited and it was more economic to build a large bore pontiac.

I've heard the same about the 350’s, but that group sounds interesting. Are they on Facebook?

Here is the link for the group. They are super friendly and share tons of info with each other. If the admin doesn't let you in ping me and I can message him.

If you are a fan of Pontiac engines, a true fan...then you are aware of how hard it is becoming to find a good use-able larger Pontiac engine core. This group will be dedicated strictly to those Pontiac V8's that are of the smaller nature and how to work and modify them.
Anything goes as long as your build is started or based on the original small cube PONTIAC block. and not the larger more mainstream engines. The exception is if you use a 400 block and de-stroke it to a 303 or smaller cube. Pontiac 4 and 6 cylinder engines are also allowed.
None of the bigger Pontiac engines allowed.

Its been a while since I have updated this thread so here are the updates. The car is looking really good and I've brought it out to a good number of cars and coffee's. Gotten a lot of good feedback on it. People are loving the car so far. I just finished up the install of the 4 corner disc brake kit. It uses 11" rotors all around. Aside from that it looks like the LS Swap is still in budget and progressing slowly. I imagine I will start in about two months if everything goes to plan.

Car mods to date:
17-9 3ed gen snow flakes. maybe should have gone wider in the back. these really needed a .5" longer wheel stud all around.
formula wheel conversion with real gm wheel off Canadian car. not junk repop
1" taller forged upper ball joints
UMI springs stock height high rate, already cut 1/4" coil and still a bit high in the front.
Bilstein shocks
1-1/4" front sway bar
1" rear sway bar
entire steering system is new with Borgerson box. aligned in garage old school way.
oem style boxed rear lower control arms w/ poly bushings
rebuilt the rear end with a 3.55 auburn and repainted
new rubber body mounts
4 corner disc brakes with parking brake
went around entire car and remediated any rust, cleaned off any failing paint and restored or undercoated as appropriate.
repainted fender liners, various brackets core support
new rocker mouldings, gto style
removed all carpet and dynamat 80% of the floor.
pontiac hood tach
rally gauges conversion
correct oem 1971 rally clock (always gonna show wrong time anyways lol)

ls swap parts obtained:
lq4 with gen4 rods and tick cam
4l80e with stock van converter
swap wiring harness and 2002 pcm
l92 heads and intake
holly oil pan headers motor mounts and crossmember, holly swap exhaust
fixed displacement denso compressor

need to order:
radiator (actually ordered but backordered 2 months)
drive shaft
electric to manual speedo box
ac line kit
vintage air condenser made for 134a with drier and built in binary switch
not sure if poa set for 134a or not need to investigate
fuel rails pump assorted lines and fittings for fuel system and tranny cooler

Woke up at 5 AM today and couldn't go back to sleep so I pulled the motor and tranny. Radiator came in. Waiting on some parts for the AC system. Car came apart really easy. Hoping the swap will be able the same amount of effort.

Maybe next time I'll build a go-kart with this left over motor!
