Fully agree with you. The '70 GTO front looks fantastic; the 71/72 GTO is (sorry if I offend anyone) fugly. On the other hand, I actually like the 71/72 Lemans front end. The '70 Lemans... well... see 71/72 GTO. Just my personal opinion.

I do like RedXRay's idea... T37 clone.

Awesome idea. I like the hidden wipers of the lemans sport over the t37 wipers. As for the 70 there a guy near me selling one where the entire chassis is already done. Even all discs but i couldn't stomach the front clip. It could be changed but ehh not my thing to do that.

Just ordered a borgeson box and an entirely new steering system. All new bushings ties and tall upper ball joints. It needs new tires as well and im thinking of re-pop 71 gto snowflakes in 17x10. I also bagged some stock height umi springs. Id like to keep it as period looking as possible with some upgrades if they dont take away from the looks. Probably no tubular suspension components. The 15 versus 17'' wheels is another argue. Big difference in looks and performance. 15" tires are getting stupid hard to find too. You can only get about 5 or so on tirerack it seems.

Funny enough talking about cars that people love to hate one of the first cars I can remember working on was a 74 Ventura. It was a real GTO too! My dad took me down to Sears and got me my first tool kit and gave me a factory service manual. Told me to figure it out. The car was non-running and I was basically tasked with doing a complete strip down of the car and clean up as much as I could. After months of work I finally got to drive it one time and even take it to a car show. Shortly after that the car was sold becoming a life lesson. F'ing Eh.

It has been a while since I updated the thread so here goes all of the recent changes:

Installed vintage style hood tach. Nothing like drilling a 3-3/4" hole in vintage sheet metal to make you question you sanity.
Changed over the deluxe wheel for a formula gto style one.
Installed rally gauges and a rally clock. (just noticed the pic doesn't show the rally gauges well but the kit deleted the idiot lights)
Corrected 40 years of amateurs' wiring mods bringing the car back to the way it should be.
Bolted on new snowflake replicas. Didn't go with honey combs since that would make it look like im trying too hard to make a gto clone. not gonna lie kind of sad to see the rally2 wheels go. It really changes the look of the car so much.
Finished rebuilding the front suspension and adding the quick ratio steering box. new ties idlers bushings bump stops etc.
Got rid of the lowering springs and went back to stock height but slightly firmer spring rate.
Tons of misc gaskets hoses seals.

Still on the to do list:
I picked up an 04 van pull out lq4/4L80E. Still on the fence about swapping.
Change rear gears and add limited slip. Blast and paint rear end.
Rebuild rear with new links and change out all remaining bushings.
Look into a 4 wheel disc brake kit.
Past that not sure of any other plans. Maybe frame braces and frame boxing kit.

Hood tach looks great! I'm on board for all said upgrades, especially the LQ 4l80 combo!

hell yea brother man. I ordered an Eaton 3.55:1 diff kit and an all wheel disc brake kit. Still researching swap parts. It looks like I can do the swap in a way that requires no perm damage or changes to the car. Old 350s are worth as much as a paperweight so Ill probably keep it if I ever want to swap back in the future. Hope keeping the BOP axle isn't a mistake but finding a used 12 bolt is proving really hard.

With it being a 350, that kinda softens my stance on being opposed to an LS swap. If it was a 400 I’d say stay Pontiac all day
