Default 97 Suburaban 5.3L LM7 swap

Hello my name is Dustin. I am starting my DD project. I am not doing any kind of performance to it unless it is needed for towing or gets me better fuel economy.

I have been working with S&P for the swap parts. If there is any other places that may have the parts cheaper let me know. Currently I have a 5.3L LM7 from a 2004 Yukon with 40k miles. I am wanting to keep away from the DBW for a simpler swap and less parts needed.

Today I will be going to get the engine from my house and taking it to my shop. I will get started on getting a list together, so that I can start ordering the parts this weekend. I am trying to get it done before the weather gets to bad.

I hope to have this swap complete in a couple of weeks. So any advice to make it go smoother or for a faster outcome please let me know. This will be my first LS swap, not my first engine swap though.

Thanks in advance.

Well didn't get much done. Couldn't get the truck to get the engine crane. I will be ordering the mounts tonight.

I took pictures and will take more on Monday. I will get them posted up then. Build threads suck without pics. lol

Well I haven't had time to upload my pictures, but I can give a small update.

I got the engine pulled and it was a mess. I found pieces of the stock 5.7 everywhere. The transmission case was broken and I will have to get it welded.

I purchased some of the odds and ends that I needed. I started to clean the engine up and got the heads bolted down. Just used stock GM parts.

I will continue to take pictures along the way. I will try to find the time to upload the pictures. It will be a large update.

Stay tuned.

Ok well I'm not sure on what to do about this transmission. The transmission was broken where the transfer case bolted to. When I pulled the transfer case off the piece just fell off. I'm not sure if I will be able to weld it due to the inside surface.

Any ideas?

I did a 6.0 swap in my old '99 2 door tahoe and used S&P for a lot of my stuff and got a Nelson harness. Lots of odds and ends will add up fast. Good luck with the build.

Bama what did you have to keep from the 5.7 harness? im assuming you went with a stand alone from nelson? i am doing the 5.3 swap in my 98 C1500. I got the PSI stand alone. i was just wondering what wires have to be kept from the stock harness. because ive seen some people keep the entire 5.7 computer. and others not

The portion where the t case mounts onto the transmission broke. It was the top left corner of the transmission.
