My Escalade threw a P0121 code, so I snagged up an LS3/LS7 TB. The main reason, it was only $147 shipped, and I needed one anyway. People say throttle response is better, no difference otherwise. I know this doesn't help. lol

Well.... DAMNIT!!! Sent my heads out this evening to get checked, and took a good look at the cam journal bores in the block, and #3 spun, cant win for losing most days it seems..... However i got to looking at cam journal bore specs and there is .040" between the 1/5 and 3rd journals, and .020 between the 3rd and 2/4 is it possible to have the 3rd journal bore/honed to one of the outer journal diameters and use the bearing from 1/5 or 2/4 in there???

common problem when spinning the bearings.

It all depends on how competent your machinist is. Normally they would Line hone the cam journals on the block. These blocks however, are completely different. It will require Line Boring which can get expensive...

If it cost $300 for just that fix is it worth saving the block? Most say no since you can easily spend a another few hundred getting the block ready for a rebuild.

That being said, Not sure what you have planned for machine work but it wouldnt hurt to speak to your machinist first. Just be prepared to find another block...

My latest block was in a fire, The #1 cap softened up. We had to replace the cap and line bore the block. It wasn't for them damaging the #1 cap trying to release the tension and honing it with the 2,3,4 caps in backwards I would have probally needed to scrap the block. Fortunately I was able to get them to correct it due to their mistake's. I considered Billet caps but at the cost of the caps and machine work running nearly $1000 I could get another block. If I needed the added strength of the billet caps it would be easier to go LSX.

With the exception of the LS7 heads, I haven't seen a set of LS based heads that were bad yet unless a valve hit the piston.
