Default 08 silverado daily driver build

well came across a deal on an 08 silverado that i could not let pass. its a ccsb 2wd with a 5.3 the motor has a rear main seal leak. so i am just going to pull the motor and rebuild it but i have some question first.

first of is what is the DOD and why do most people delete i?.(ive searched alot of threads on here but couldnt find why people got rid of it)

with rebuilding the motor i am going to do a cam and all the supporting mods such as lifters, pushrods, valve springs, timing chain. but is there any other supporting mods motor wise that i am missing?

will also be getting another circle d stall once i figure out the cam i am using.(most likely a custom cam from SXT)

this is not my first cammed ls truck to build but my last one was a 99 5.3 and im not sure how much if any difference the motors are technically besides the dod

essentially the process of cam swapping is the same on the engine you have now. There are a few extra steps and new parts though. You'll want to get the HD timing chain dampener ( I've got one I can sell if you want it ) and you have to remove the heads to put in good lifters now to remove DOD. There's more but I can't remember at the moment.

I'd throw a set of headers on there too...

This does a pretty good job at explaining DOD/Active Fuel Management/Cylinder Deactivation/Whatever you want to call it.

As far as why people get rid of it, I'm sure there are tons of opinions.
I have personally seen the lifters come apart and wipe a couple lobes off the cam, but they were on poorly maintained/high mileage vehicles.

TSP sells a delete kit. - https://www.texas-speed.com/p-717-do...elete-kit.aspx
