'03 Z71 Tahoe - ByeBye 11mpg.. Hello 4BTA Cummins
#113
Well just talk about me like I'm not even here... ... lol
As for mileage... I can't get an accurate reading as of yet... gauge cluster is still not quite right... odometer isn't coming up all the time.
I can guesstimate high teens to low 20s though based on time between fill
ups.
Hopefully I can get the cluster working right soon so I will know for sure. Be live me I am very curios myself if its all really been worth the trouble.

Picked up huffer #2 today... and got a rough estimate on fuel mileage...
#2 is a WH1C... Its in decent shape but gonna go on and rebuild it while its on the bench. Wont have my intercooler until august so will probably wait to bolt everything on till then.
AAANNNDDD.... the reason I say rough estimate is because it was a relatively short trip.. not an average of several tanks... but using the trip setting on my gps, racked up 120 miles today.. 70/30 interstate city... sitting right around 20-21mpg. Very happy with those numbers... means I damn near doubled what I was getting with the 5.3 and still making good power.. soon to be double the power.
Not bad at all for a Tahoe turning 35" rubber
Anyways... more to come soon!

turbo rebuild kit on the way from holset... also scored a 2nd gen cummins 4" downpipe to cut up...
All I need now are a few misc. oil fittings... and a day of fab work.
Thinking about installing in the next week or two... we'll see.

So... a bit of a teaser.. hx30w/hx35 compound system. should be done tomorrow.. waiting on 1 4" coupler to come in so I can finish the turbo inlet/filter pipe...
The filter will sit higher then it is in the picture.. its just resting there at the moment to show placement.
Cant wait to drive this thing!

Well its back up and running... power is nice but needs more fuel for sure.
Here are some as it sits pictures... not happy with the lower boot so I didn't paint the air filter pipe..
Ive got some videos but its gonna be later tonight before I can post them up.
As far as how it drives... boost comes on faster then with just the hx30 for sure.. peak boost is currently around 29psi but it only hits that for a few seconds just before it hits the governor which boost drops as it defuels.. on the highway on flat ground running 65-70mph.. 20psi steady.. easily and quickly pulls past 80mph holding 29psi...
EGTs havnt gone above 1100... with the hx30w, they would kiss 1300 before I would let out. I know this setup has a lot left in it... but I'm going to have to pick up a fuel pin, install my 3200 gov. spring, and do some more tweaking on the pump for sure.
With this setup.. the power band is much more useable.. and I can still hit its max boost in 1st gear.. which it comes up to 28-29psi pretty quickly but then drops a little as it defuels just before it hits the governor.
Very happy with the outcome so far.. and will be happier yet with a bit more fuel on the fire to get boost up more.
Videos to come later tonight once I get them hosted.
Thanks!
