I've read through several posts (maybe not enough), but was SURE...that some of you guys could give me the advice I was looking for
. Now that I've plead ignorance, lol, help me out.
Looking at running a mild (125 shot) of NOS. Right now I've got a BONE STOCK 4.8, with the exception of a drop in air filter. Have 3.73's in back (not that it's relevant). Was looking at putting this kit in before my cam install in hopes of being able to stage my power gains so that I might see what I gained, and where. Obviously not going to run the kit without a tune, first. Going to end up taking the truck down to Wheatley with the kit installed, and going from there.
All of that, here's my question; can I SAFELY run a 125 shot on a stock setup, without having reliability issues? I'm not going spray that often. And, what size shot COULD you run on a bone stock setup? I'm definitely going to add LT's/ORY, cam, CAI...and the like shortly after. But my reasons for this are so that I can see what gains I make with specific mods. Maybe an idea of order? Was really wanting to see what a stock, quiet truck performed like on a 125 or so shot
.
Thanks much...and once again, please excuse my ignorance.

i wouldnt go over a 150shot on a stock shortblock.100-125hot is about normal on a stock motor. stock motors love the juice.
since you will already have a tune with the nitrous, id go
CAI
LTs/off-road midpipe/exhaust
retune, make sure you have enough fuel while on the juice, if not upgrade fuel system
LSD
stall
retune
other minor boltons - ported TB, UD pulleys, etc.
cam, valvetrain
retune
heads
retune
intake manifold swap
retune
built shortblock of some kind
retune, but by this point you should be tuned with HPT/EFILive on a dyno or a live street tune, not a mail order.
next is more juice or add boost

125 shot is relativley safe but like other have said the probhlem will most likely be the problem.
I have sprayed 200 on a bolt-on LQ9 it seems to like it but i aslo have a built trans. stock 4.8 should be fine.

Thanks to all who have responded thus far!!
I've definitely had the trans in mind as the "weakest link"...have been looking into FLT's level 4 as a replacement. Anyone know how much this unit is rated for? And as I've mentioned in another thread, I'm still on the fence when it comes to staying auto, or switching over to the T-56. I've really wanted to perform the conversion for as long as I've been on the site, but...like I said, still on the fence. Will probably hold off on the spray until I know for sure which route I'm going to go.
Keep the responses coming though...really like to see what everyone has to say!!

You can't get to 427 with the 4.8 block. Safest people enlarge that motor to is 383. I don't think you can actually go 427 with the 6L either. I think 418 is the biggest you can go but I could be wrong. Best combo's for bored and stroked out motors with each block is...
IIRC (someone correct me if I'm wrong)...
4.8/5.3 = 383
6.0 = 408
LSX = 483
