You wont need any mods to run a 50hp wetshot on a Vortec 350. Just make sure you use a fresh cap/rotor, good plus, for safety run teh highest octane fuel you can get.

A 50 hp shot is only 6.25hp per cylinder, not much at all.

A guy on FSC ran a 50 hp dry shot and dropped his ET's by a full second.

cool about how many miles should i do the plugs and cap and rotor ? my 1996 gmc only has 48,000 miles. ok so with only a 50 shot i should be good with a 91 tune just run the best gas i can get ? should the tuner know i plan on a 50 shot ? not gunna squeeze all the time just here and there

A 50 shot you don't need to tune for so no need to tell the tuner. A colder plug would be a great idea and run some 93 or 94 if you can get it. Just an extra buffer of safety.

Typical rule is 100 hp is a seccond off your 1/4 so the 50 dropping a full seccond shouldn't be expected. But it will be fun and help and soon you will want 75 or a 100.

Yes, I do agree with not expecting a full second with a 50hp shot. It was 96ImpSS over on FSC that dropped a full second with a 50hpdry shot on his L31 350 in his 97 2wd ecab truck. he was running a Precision Industries Vigilante 3000rpm TC and PCMforLess PCM tune that was developed on their chassis dyno. The PCMforLess 87 octane tune netted an additional 20 hp over a Fastchip mailorder tune. I think that truck dynoed at 257rwhp with the PCMforLess tune, Hooker 2462 1hkr LT's, dual 2 1/2" exhaust and stock fuel injection and ZZ4 cam.
That tune is available from PCMforLess, just ask for the PAt Gish L31 calibration.
He now runs a Yank SS3600 TC and is running 14.3@92mph and 13.69@96.2mph with the 50hp dry shot. So thats 0.61 seconds and 4.2mph improvement.
He has a '96 Impala SS that runs 11.26 @119.4 no nitrous.

I do my cap/rotor every year, and everytime I do swap them out, I can feel a seat-of-the-pants improvement. These Vortec coils are pretty hot so far as running the voltage through a physical connection between the contact points of the cap/rotor. This is one of the reasons why GM went to the CNP ignition in the trucks.
The 1st truck CNP 8 coil ignition setup used by GM was the 1998 L21 Vortec 454 that replaced the old talldeck 427 truck engine in the medium duty trucks and P-series vans.
The stock PCM calibration is pretty weak so far as timing advance and the PE mode fuel multiplier is quite rich, so you have a decent margin of safety with the stock tune.

let us know how it turns out.

peace
