I guess any 99-up 6.0 will be fine. Trans depends on what you want to do with it. I would go ahead and get a 80e and put a few aftermarket partrs with it and be done. Are you going with fuel injection?

Jason, sorry i am so slow getting back to your email. the 2003 motor will be an excellent choice. it will have the preferred #317 casting aluminum cathedral port heads. the only issue will be the intake, or more specifically the throttle body. '03+ motors are dbw (drive by wire). meaning that there is no cable directly connecting the gas pedal to the throttle blade, its electronically controlled. no worry though, the earlier style intakes are a direct bolt on and easy to do before the motor install. you will also have to get a dbc (drive by cable) wiring harness. these will add some cost but you can also sell your dbw stuff to recoop some of it, and imho it is cheaper and easier in the long run to convert your dbw to cable driven. theres the added cost and headache of: the pedal, brackets, wiring etc etc for the dbw. just my two cents. any more questions post up and someone will be sure and answer.

oh, and in regards to your tranny question in your other thread: if your 500r4 is built pretty good it would hold up to a stock-lightly modded 6 liter. my r4 is built up so im running it till it goes out or till i save up enough for a 408 stroker build and i plan on running full bolt ons, nitrous and then a cam.

if you do upgrade to the 'e' family id def. go with an 80e off the bat for some insurance, and then if you go big with your motor later on the trans will already be good to go and you wont have to go down the same road twice.

What are your plans for the 6L? If you're keeping it stock a 4L60E will be fine.

Welcome BTW.

the 99-00 will have the longer crank, and those will only bolt up to an 80e and not the 60e
