Default new from the vw scene

Hey, my name is matt. Prior cars mainly vws so I'm used to the 4cyl turbo scene. But I've wanted back into a v8 for a while. Only problem is my second child is on the way so I gotta stay in the 4door vehicles. So I'm looking into 3 different vehicle builds. I could use some insight into them.

1st. G8 gt- cammed/exhaust/intake/camaro diff. Maybe if I get bored a supercharger

2nd. 2007 tahoe 5.3l- Cammed/6l80e swap/torque convertor/ 70-80mm turbo/ls9 head gasket/ arp head studs/ upgraded valve springs/ 80# injectors with 255 fuel pump.

3rd. 2007 trailblazer ss- cammed/6l80e swap?/exhaust/intake and a good tune should hold me over till I can supercharge it with a tvs2300

Any input or things I should change or consider? Like terrible mpg since it will be daily driver abd maybe used on trips

Thanks matt

Honestly with two kids and all the baby stuff a TBSS isn't going to have the space you want so I would take that one out unless you have a second larger vehicle.

The G8 would be an awesome and simple choice. I want one myself.

Swapping to a 6L80e is notoriously difficult(6L90e is easier if your set on a six speed) So I would skip that although if you go one or two years newer you can find it stock in a Tahoe. The rest of the Tahoe plan seems like a good one although I would expect to invest 6-7k to make a turbo Tahoe reliable enough for daily duty.

yeah ive been fighting with the tbss idea since all the guys i know that are getting rid of them are upgrading to the g8 gt. so that just tells me something right there. and the g8 doesnt have a weak tranny to start and can get into 12s very easy and still be daily reliable.

why is the 6l90e easier?

it think pcmofnc makes a harness to just plug and play with the 6l80e i would just have to find a torque converter and a tranny crossmember from a tahoe with a 6l80e.

Welcome to the site! I have a 13' Jetta GLI and love the car, when my wife isn't destroying tires by running over potholes....... Sorry, 4 new tires yesterday with only 15k on the car so I'm still butt hurt about it.

Anyhow, I agree with gamble on this.

I am somewhat in the same boat, but am only on my first child due in a few months. I am leaning towards the G8 GT or a 6.0 GTO myself. Ultimately it would be the new SS if I could afford it.

I have a 09 gti 2.0tsi
stage 2 full bolt ons...its a fun car but it needs a bigger turbo mine is maxed out. Dsg or 6speed?

I think that getting a 09 tahoe with the 6 speed will be cheaper in the long run.

Nice! I bet that is a fun ride. My job takes me up a twisty mountain road and even though it's completely stock it is still an absolute blast in the GLI. It's a 6speed, my wife had to have the manual lol. She wants to throw money at it but we're going to hold off till the warranty is up.

I'll stop mucking your thread up now lol.

Welcome, that harness that they make converts it from the 6spd to a 4l60E or 4L80E not vise versa. (Unless they have something new) Just a FYI If you are looking for a vehicle big enough for a family then just go with the Tahoe. I have a DD car that is 4dr and I thought it would be sufficient size wise but once the baby seat is in the rear etc there is no room. Going to get a CC truck to replace it.

Ok that changes things up a little bit. Now thinking just getting a 09 and up or maybe a sierra Denali even though it will be more exp but has the awd + 6.2l fun.

Have you looked into the k04?

Its a vw made turbo that is smaller than a gt28 but makes 300whp on a 4cyl turbo for cheap. Puts a jetta gli into low 12s....sorry vw stuff
