Default New, sort of

Getting a 5.3 motor for free! I believe its from a '03 Silverado. I had a '01 WS6 so I know about the LS1... but I dont know **** about the 5.3.

I cant seem to find much about it, most people yap about the 6.0L
Is it an aluminum or iron block? Heads are aluminum right?

Compression ratio? and will all the LS1 stuff bolt right up, like cams, heads, pullies, etc. The patriot heads look good for the price, not sure what kind of vehicle I will be throwing this into so I dont know about what cam to get.

Any info or direction to info would be great!! Thanks

The 5.3 is traditionally an iron block, which is shared by the 4.8 liter. The only difference between the 4.8 and 5.3 engines is stroke and the 5.3 uses dish top pistons. All accessories from the ls1 5.7 will bolt right up to the 5.3, but dont recommend using the heads from the ls1 on a 5.3 because the ls1 heads were designed for a larger bore than the 5.3, I think a cam will be fine but I dont think you will gain a whole lot with it. There are a few guys on this board with 5.3 in their trucks running low 12's NA, you just have to know what works good together and there are some sponsors that sell some nice cams for these motors. The 5.3 heads flow good from what I hear. Do you have a truck your putting the motor in?

I dont have a vehicle yet. I read up that the max bore of the motor is about 3.9" which would put it in 5.7 L territory. I think I might have to do that, its probably going into my 81 Malibu in a year or so.
